Sleep Medicine Fellowship

The Sleep Medicine Fellowship at NYU Langone Health is a one-year program focused on training physicians to manage a wide range of sleep disorders. It is designed for those who want to specialize in both clinical and academic settings related to sleep medicine.

Clinical Training

Fellows receive training at:

  • NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue
  • VA NY Harbor Healthcare System
  • NYU Langone ambulatory clinics and Tisch Hospital

This exposure allows fellows to work with patients experiencing conditions like:

  • Sleep apnea
  • Insomnia
  • Narcolepsy
  • Parasomnias
  • Restless legs syndrome
  • Excessive daytime sleepiness

Fellows also gain experience with diagnostic methods, including:

  • Polysomnography (lab-based sleep studies)
  • Home-based sleep testing
  • Actigraphy
  • Multiple sleep latency testing
  • Maintenance of wakefulness testing

Training includes rotations in areas such as pulmonary function testing, neurology, otolaryngology, pediatric sleep medicine, and sleep dentistry.

Research topics within the program include:

  • Physiology of sleep-disordered breathing
  • Positive airway pressure compliance
  • Sleep-disordered breathing in pregnancy
  • Predictors of sleep stage transitions
  • Cognitive consequences of sleep disruption and sleep apnea
  • Links between sleep-disordered breathing and neurodegeneration

Didactic Training

The program includes regular conferences, case discussions, journal reviews, and presentations. Topics cover all major areas of sleep medicine. Additional learning opportunities include clinical and research-focused events throughout NYU Langone.

Application Process

Applications are accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Prospective applicants should ensure they meet all eligibility requirements and submit the necessary documentation via ERAS

Johns Hopkins Sleep Medicine Fellowship

The Sleep Medicine Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is a 12-month clinical program accredited by the ACGME. It has trained sleep medicine specialists for over 30 years, preparing physicians for board certification and clinical or academic careers.

Clinical Training

Fellows participate in outpatient clinics, specialty rotations, and sleep laboratory experiences. Training locations include:

  • Johns Hopkins Hospital
  • Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center

The fellowship includes:

  • Evaluating and treating sleep disorders in pediatric and adult patients
  • Training in specialty clinics like otolaryngology, dental sleep medicine, neurology, psychiatry, and pulmonary medicine
