The Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) in Sleep Medicine
at UWE Bristol is a 12-month, part-time program designed for healthcare professionals seeking to enhance their expertise in sleep disorders and their management.
Program Details
Duration: 12 months, part-time.
Delivery Mode: Blended learning, combining online sessions with on-campus block weeks.
Two 30-credit modules:
This module provides foundational knowledge and clinical skills for investigating suspected sleep disorders. Topics include conducting clinical assessments, performing diagnostic tests, and understanding patient-centered care principles.
This module offers an in-depth understanding of various respiratory and non-respiratory sleep disorders. It covers the pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, risk factors, and management options for these disorders.
Assessment Methods
- Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) - practical exams assess clinical skills in a controlled environment
- Present cases based on actual patient histories to show understanding of diagnosing and treating sleep issues.
Entry Requirements
- Employment within a healthcare setting.
- A minimum of a first-class or 2:1 undergraduate honors degree in a relevant science or healthcare subject.
- Applicants with a 2:2 honors degree may be considered if accompanied by suitable experience, supported by a written statement from the employer.
Funding
The course is funded by NHS England, with recruitment managed by the National School of Healthcare Science in collaboration with NHS England.
